Vintage Port on the Hastings by David Poulton

Nestled in the heart of the Mid-North Coast, only five hours' drive north of Sydney and about the same from the Queensland border, the Hastings Valley is the ideal fishing location. With a mild, temperate climate it's a great location year-round and whether you come for a weekend or a week, there's plenty on offer for all keen anglers and their families.

Port Macquarie is the hub of the region and the Hastings River is the lifeblood of the valley. Starting on the flanks of Mount Seaview, it meanders through the valley to the coast at Port Macquarie. With tourism making up a large portion of the town's economy, there is a host of places to stay, things to do and a bundle of fishing options.

The town centre has a multitude of easy access point for taking the kids for a relaxing fish. The Town Green in the heart of the CBD is a recreational area with great access to the water and a wonderful wharf for kids to fish from. The Town Green adjoins the southern breakwall with its easy access for chasing bream, flathead, luderick or mulloway. The heart of Port Macquarie has it all, including the Sundowner Tourist Park right on the breakwall, plenty of shopping and some fine restaurants and cafes, all within walking distance.
