...It's worth spending a reasonable amount on long term purchases like rods and reels. However, lures are a different kettle of fish.

There are some really good bits of gear, priced reasonably, that work well and will fool more than enough fish to keep you happy. Sure, they probably won't last as long or put up with the sort of abuse that top quality gear does, but lures are meant to be disposable items. If you can catch a few fish on one, most anglers I know would consider it money well spent.

On the other side of the coin, there are some absolute shockers out there which are a real waste of money. Lures with brittle plastic bodies, weak wire fittings and sub standard hardware...
